I run a solo private practice that is 100% telehealth and direct-pay only. I do not accept health insurance, but I do provide Superbills upon request that may be submitted to insurance companies for reimbursement. I offer individual psychotherapy (also referred to as “talk therapy”) to residents of Louisiana, Florida, Arizona, and California.
I have also provided online therapy through the BetterHelp subscription-based platform. Click here for more information and client testimonials.
Testimonials are solicited and published by BetterHelp, not by Renée Gaubert, LCSW.
I do not offer crisis counseling or emergency mental health services. If you’re thinking about suicide or worried that a friend or loved one might be, or if you’re looking for immediate emotional support, the Lifeline network is available 24/7 across the United States. THE TRAUMA CYCLE
While every person’s therapy journey is unique, I notice a theme in each case. My clients break cycles that kept them trapped in a life that didn’t feel like their own. These cycles are repeating patterns of behavior and thought that are self-destructive. They can come from experiencing collective trauma like oppression, natural disasters, poverty, war, or pandemics. They can come from experiencing individual trauma like sexual violence, abusive relationships, or a near death experience. They can come from vicarious trauma, generational trauma, or simply not having a safe and supportive person available to help you co-regulate through hard times. These cycles may manifest as eating disorders, substance use disorders, personality disorders, or mood disorders. I think of therapy as having 2 parts- understanding (identify the cycle) and changing (break it).
CLINICAL BACKGROUND
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) from New Orleans, Louisiana. My expertise is in treating trauma-related disorders. After earning my BA in sociology with minors in women’s studies, I began my social work career as a housing case manager for fellow New Orleanians displaced by Hurricane Katrina. While earning my MSW from Tulane University, I worked at the Family Justice Center and UNO Counseling Services. After graduation, I became a domestic violence victim advocate with the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office. I also provided in-home mental health rehabilitation services and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy throughout the greater New Orleans area for several years. Now I practice online therapy full-time from my home, serving adults across the country.
THERAPY STYLE
What sets therapy apart from self-help is the therapeutic relationship. As a relational therapist, I believe our connection will be the key that unlocks your personal growth. It’s important that you experience me as a real person with genuine interest and care for you, so I’ll share a bit about myself here. I identify as a bisexual cis woman, and I share my home with my 3 pets: a goldador named Bella, a chihuahua-mix named Rex, and red-tail boa named Kaa. I like to take road trips, and most of my vacations are spent in a campground or at a music festival.
I’m a classy lady who curses a lot. I deliver formal, evidence-based interventions with an informal, quirky personality. I am fiercely empathic and guide with non-judgment. I will plan each session with your treatment goals in mind, but meet you where you are in each moment. I often give “homework” that involves writing out your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that we can notice patterns and find alternative choices. Practice makes habit. But it is most important that you show up consistently and authentically YOU. I may offer the how, but you are the why therapy works. And you are why I love my job.
TREATMENT APPROACH
I look at problems through an intersectional feminist framework and use cognitive behavioral interventions that help my clients manage overwhelming emotions, change self-destructive habits, improve personal relationships, and feel more in control of their lives. While most of my clients have experienced trauma, it’s not what brings most people into therapy. I start with the changes you’d like to see in your life right now. Having a supportive person you feel safe with and understood by is neither a luxury nor aid you have to qualify for; it’s what all humans need to thrive. We are an interdependent, social species. I will build a brave space with you, so you can explore how your past experiences have shaped patterns of relating to others. You will clarify your values and learn to live them authentically in the present.
Often times, this process involves uncovering and processing trauma. Even if we think we are “over it,” there may be new lessons to learn or insight to gain. I have found trauma is not something you get over, but something you move through. As a trauma survivor myself, I’ve experienced the transformative power of therapy from the client side, too. I know how much courage it takes to open up to someone new, and let them see who you are and who you want to become. I would be honored to step into your world and move through it with you.

FEES
Therapy is a significant financial investment into your well-being. While that financial investment may seem great, the return on that investment is even greater. Therapy can significantly improve several facets of your life long-term, which can ultimately build your wealth. For example, therapy may empower you to advocate for yourself and finally ask for that raise, to quit self-medicating with excessive spending or substance use, or to take less sick days and work more efficiently so your hourly income increases.
When you engage in psychotherapy services, you are improving your ability to seek out what you need to be your best self. Over time you will begin to incorporate the insight and adaptive coping skills we develop in sessions into your daily life, and reduce the frequency of sessions while continuing your progress. Once you are my client, there will always be a spot available for you to return for regular or “check-in” sessions as needed.
